Toshitomo Ohashi, also known as Shoji Yamashiro in the music world, has been researching the “Hypersonic Effect,” the positive impact of ultrahigh-frequency sounds beyond the human audible range on the human brain, from the perspective of acoustical engineering. He leads a performing group called “Geino Yamashiro-gumi” where they apply these findings in artistic expressions.
Additionally, the name Shoji Yamashiro, as well as Geino Yamashiro-gumi, is well-known for composing the “Symphony AKIRA,” which enriched the world of the epic animation film “AKIRA” directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, and for their live performances. Inspired by Ohashi’s research on sound and the music activities of Shoji Yamashiro, who is the same person, a short documentary on the relationship between “Sound and Civilization” has been created in collaboration with JKD Collective and SHINSHUN.
(Video Duration: Approximately 20 minutes, Director: Senzo Ueno, Producer: Bruce Ikeda).
To celebrate the completion of this new work, a premium screening preview and a party featuring a live performance by the shakuhachi player Akikazu Nakamura, who also appears in the video, will be held at “Haretara Sorani Mamemaite,” a live house known for its exceptional sound system in Tokyo, on Friday, November 10th.
Explore the enigmatic world of hypersonic sounds that challenges the complexities of modern society and contributes to its future.
